Spray painting my shoes?

I've wanted yellow shoes for a really long time but I can't find them anywhere. I have black nike shoes that I want to paint yellow or something. I've heard spray paint works the best. So pretty much, I want to know if spray paint is the best way to do it and then how to do it. I'm pretty sure they are leather or something. They aren't suede or fabric like that.
