Does anyone know a (freeware) program to graphically show connections between persons or facts?

You want a mind mapper. Those can link ideas or maybe even items and people. Also look for flowcharts, but your best bet is a dedicated mind mapper. I can only provide the suggestion of a mac app called omni graffle, but if you google that, you should get a good idea of what to use.
